Yes! We are not at all disappointed. The hotel is a beauty set on the lake.
The huge old-fashioned round copper locks at the door opens to reveal a silver table with glass top in the middle of the room. A chair and bed, also in silver, sits royally against the cool lime walls. Old wooden cupboards in darkwood that is very British India adds character to the space. Then we drew the 'curtains' and lo and behold! What an unexpected surprise! it is not just a view. It is a little harem complete with bed, pillows and plush cushions sitting grandly behind this curtained arch on a overhang that overlooks and frames the lake Pichola and the majestic City Palace on the craggy stone hill across the lake. Below the guazy curtains and windows is the lake. It's green waters lapping the sides of the hotel and underwater weeds paintig green lines in the water.
We showered and went out looking for a way to get to Bapu Bazaar or market. As soon as we walked outside, we were invited to jump on a scooter - , yes! 2 of us + 1 driver rider makes 3 on a scooter! And our driver is a friendly and shy 14 years old who speaks excellent English with charming disposition, the dashing young son of a local doctor. He sped us off to Jagdish Chowx that is quite deserted on a Sunday late afternoon (all the while this picture looks like I'm in a Roman Holiday movie set). We arrived at the cobbled slopes with sprinkling of vendors selling meager goods. We hopped off and selected juicy mangoes, tomatoes, cilantro and hope on again. I rode side saddle! It was exhilarating! Here our Roman Holiday takes off again as I held on to my hat and we were 'chased' through the winding narrow streets by a posse of motorcycles. We pique interest since we are Chinese, so they followed us! our scooter with a posse of revving machines and good looking guys bumped our way across the large over the amazing, sweet , wonderful heaven-on-earth picturesque Lake Pichola. I waved madly. Perhaps if Josh is sitting on the rooftop of the hotel, he is able to spot our happy convoy. And I am as happy as a lark on a Spring morning, riding pillion on this scooter! Our rider whizzed us past crazy zig zag walled narrow streets and throttle us up to our hotel. He deposited us beneath the grand iron arches of the hacienda complete with overhanging its dark pink bougainvillas. We tipped him and gave him a souvenir.
My greatest joy and thrill and most WONDERFUL moment is riding side-saddled with my arms around my Baba, three on the back of the scooter! I giggled and laughed . . . like never before for along time, so very happy, and feeling absolutely contented, free, and so 'Roman Holiday,' complete with hat and sunglass, scarf flying!
The rooftop view of the Lake, the palace and the rooftop itself is out of the Arabian Nights. Hey, there is a lot of movie settings here! I love it! Suits me just fine! I can continue to indulge myself as a Maharani! Curtained palanquin beds with its thin muslin blowing in the wind is set aglow by light and torches - and amidst big rolls of red bolsters here am I, beautiful and wonderfully reclined on the palanquin framed by the magnificient view of the lake in the background and a six century old ghats, steps, buildings and a palace! How wonderful can life get!
We dined every night on the rooftop after that. We look forward to sunset and dining in the dusk with orange lamps and placements, stacks of stark red cushions amidst white billowing curtain, a gentle breeze, the thundering drums from the Palace across from us . . . all so Maharajah India. Josh thinks he wants a rooftop just like this one in his future home, and a curtained harem bed - and here he is, right now in front of me, reading his bible by candlelight. He is rapped in a lush towel, with the light from the candle providing him a gentle warmth after a cool bath.
I find it unbelievable and amazing to have this hotel stay. God has really blessed me with a Royal Maharajah's Holiday. I never dreamed of this. And it is a wonderful and enchanting dream.
Picturesque Poetry.

Everything here is beautifully enchanting.
