These beauties,
just as they were three decades ago
I picked them up for my floral arrangement
competition, and went on to win the third prize.
And they have kept their linear beauty
through the years. See how the pines
gently twists and turns like a corkscrew
winding upwards.
This could have been the pool in Luang Prabang
Almost the same turquoise green waters
of the Kuang Si falls in Luang Prabang
Except that this pool is man-made,
and the base is painted turquoise green.
A Red Tree.
Penang's Redwood
Man-made rockery
I could have been in a coniferous forest!
My Hari Raya Sayang Sayang Hug-a-Tree.
What an elegant line!
A flower as big as my hat!
And bigger than my head!
This reminds me of Ah Chor's and Koong Thai's
backyard. My great grandfather, Koong Thai
postmaster of Ipoh, lives in Lahat Lane way
back in the 1960's. My grandparents have
a brook like this running next to the house.
The brook by Koong Thai's wooden house
used to be full of leeches, snakes, and awful
amphibians. But the delicious pucuk paku ferns
also grows by its banks. Pucuk paku, blanched
and mixed withsambal, santan and kerisik makes
a tempting kerabu salad.
Two toned zig zag leaves
We found two victims to be our camera
men. Here we are getting ready to pose
for our 'Raya in a Kampong house' photo.
"Get over here", says Sis.
"No, I think I hear some hissing"
getting ready to run away from
unsavoury creepy crawlies, or worse . . .
"This looks like an elephant!" says Big Sis.
I thought it looks like a crocodile.
We both agreed this is a pony.
Can you make that out?
Horse or pony head, two legs
and a tail.
This one Big Sis says is a dolphin.
I think its a dolphin with a goldfish tail.
Sunshine at the end of our journey!
Musa Ornata
The forest keeps pointed out the birds
on the trees. Where?
We chance upon this sign
"Sayangi Hutan"
Yes Siree!
Big Sis says then we must be
Orang Hutan sisters,
sama sama Sayangi Hutan
We found a mysterious path that leads nowhere . . .
actually it leads somewhere, but it was too spooky
for us to venture further . . .
We retreated.
A caravan that seems to have lost their way . . .
Quiet 'water-gurgling' time by a brook
Picnic by the brook.
Only that Red Riding Hood
forgot her picnic basket.
"Wooohoo! oVer here!"
Jane.
Hoping Tarzan can spot me.
A lovely jacaranda putting out its lilac
flowers, parading just outside of the Rimba
our morning's jungle walk and workout.
Cooking breakfast in a big big pan.
This giant roti jala makes one portion
for ONE person's breakfast.
Crispy on the outside,
warm on the inside.
We ordered 'teh ais kurang manis' (less sugar)
It seems to be misunderstood as a request
to dilute the milk tea, so in the end we had
teh ais that is just plain brown coloured water.
But the roti gala is another story . . .
Yummm time!
