At the Kapitan Keling mosque just before
breaking fast in the month of Ramadan
An adventure to Sungai Ara to visit brothers
Not and Felix, Noh's son and Felix' s baby.
Mrs Noh has been feeding our TG class with
delicious spread of tapai, spring rolls, kueh kueh
for the past six months. Today I had ayam masak
merah and and kurma combing with nasi biryani.
Finger lickin' good!
This is the Noh's cosy kampong house.
He is going to re-built it next year so that
it can comfortably house his eight children,
and one wife, as he proudly announces.
Felix lives nearby, and their parents live just
behind this house.
On the second day of Hari Raya I visited
Kampong Makam. These lovely homes that houses
several generations, are built on a wakaf land.
This particular house is so pretty, with its festive
green curtains, the airy open windows and trellis
partitions. It is cooly shaded by trees around it, and
pak chik proudly inform us that he has been sweeping
the surroundings.
This is one of Yome's neighbour's house.
Yome's quaint and cosy home. It is just so
comfortable, and I love the blue curtains.
Yome's sister who has just given birth to
a new baby recently. Look at her baju kurung!
Little cousin eyeing the goodies
in colourful canisters . . .
Delicious nasi!
A generous spread awaits us!
I brought along Helen, teacher at Uplands.
Yome is an inspector of schools, and Cheam
is a senior educator at Chung Ling High School.
This is Helen's first Hari Raya open house
visit in Malaysia, and she is so pleased to meet
new friends of similar vocation, on this special day.
Helen even took the trouble to dress up
in a baju kurung and a batik sarong.
Yome's dad's speciality mee kuah.
Some just finished decorating the house
with Raya envelopes and light bearer.
Here is my bowl of mee kuah.
More friends at the buffet table outside
That's how chempedak grows -
just a stem sticking on to the tree.
How does it manage to balance and
spread out its weight on that solo twig?
My best Hari Raya ever!
