Iconic Nyonya Birthday

Sarong Kebaya Beauties Flowing from a Staircase.
My beautiful Sayang Sayang Nyonya Dancers and friends arrive at Iconic Hotel for a party, courtesy of Iconic Hotel, Bukit Mertajam.

Girlfriends are one of the most cherished blessings of life.  Here are the charming girls, who have faithfully come for practices, tired after work, yet not complaining, to practice our Nyonya dances.  Most precious is that we all love one another, happy to get together, a bunch of giggly sisters when we dress up for dance engagements.  Missing four other Sayang Sayang dancers tonight.

Picking from a tray of fresh Ulam and matching them with the wide variety of accompanying sauces and spices. the aroma of prawn goreng and filling up pie tee tophats with bangkuang char.  Assam fish, kay stoo stewed chicken, kangkong goreng sambal, Assam prawns goreng . . .  and a whole lot of seafood and Thai dishes!!!

Birthday party, lagi

Nyonya choir gives a hearty rendition of 'Slamat Umor Panjang Panjang'

What a colourful surprise!
A massive tang pua platter of colourful Nyonya kueh.  Miniature ang koo are arranged to spell the Chinese word 'SHOU', propitious blessings of longevity shòu寿.
Longevity is one of the traditional Chinese Five Happiness or Blessings wǔfú五福, namely, good and long life, riches and wealth (in family, friendships, talent, etc), health, love of virtue, and a peaceful death.

The best gift is being surrounded by sisters and friends who bless your heart and warm your soul.

Chinese calligraphy has auspicious sayings shòu shān fú hǎi(寿山福海), wishes that proclaim
"May your life be as steadfast as the mountains and your good fortune as limitless as the expanse of the seas".

Thank you, ladies!
My token of sayang to the ladies

Checking out the kuehs and the happy discovery of bubor cha cha for dessert!

Bunga China conscientiously grading and giving expert tips on the aroma, flavour, taste, texture and presentation of the food. And giving high marks for her favourite sambal!

All ready to come Nyonya dancing!

 KAM SIAH!!!
