Gaily decorated circus roundabout on the way to Kumakarom
either for elections or Onam celebrations
Then got on to a boat that will take us to the Kamakarom Lagoon where we are booked for the night.
Arrival at the Kumakarom Lagoon.
What a welcome! Blessings and a flower garland
The garland is made of the prettiest shell colors stringed on a fresh apple lime green reed.
And we found patches of this unusual mossy-web-like thing growing on the grass.
Our little private bungalow has an open bathroom. So we can take our showers
under the open skies . . . or sit on the throne and watch the clouds pass by!
It's light, airy, open . . . makes bath and toilet time a treat!
The coir shades next to the open pulls up to a picture window. From here,
we are a few feet away from the lagoon that surrounds this hotel.
We can spot cranes, kingfishers and all sorts of birds perched on the trees,
coming to rest on the branches, or waiting for dinner to swim by.
These geese sit out in the pool of water by the lagoon all day,
still, occasionally rearranging their necks and heads in different directions.
The Lagoon at dusk.
The restaurant has bamboo chicks to screen out the sun and provide
an exquisite vignette to the coconut trees lifting their fronds in the breeze
while we breakfast on warm pancakes and rotis and chutneys.
A walk around the Kamakarom Lagoon
I love the first picture, Jewel with her veil trailing down the garden path.
And water lilies in matching color.
The pontoon is also the jetty for the boats to pick us up.
By the side is a floating carpet of water hyacinths, lilacs peeking out from the greens.
Two boats sits under the shade of the coconut trees.
