Setiu

The reward at the end of the journey
is a calm and clean lagoon, small patch
sandy beach and a picnic area.

How diverse.
These casuarina pines are just to the left of the above picture.

Setiu Wetlands covering 23,000 hectaress, is the largest natural wetlands in the East Coast region of Peninsular Malaysia, combining various ecosystems including  freshwater, seawater , brackish water and a 14 km lagoon
The Setiu Wetlands consists of three river basins converged to form a continuous lagoon 14 km long. It has nine interconnected ecosystems. It is a mixture of sand islands, mudflats, mangroves, peat swamp, riparian forest, seagrass beds and sand beaches, and a lagoon filled with both sea and fresh water. And its diversity extends to it being a breeding ground for scores of mammals, reptiles and marine life.

Teatime treats await us!

On the drive back, we pass rustic kampong
houses and coconut groves.
